From his time in the 18th century, straight through to today, electrical engineers have made a huge impact on our lives.  Indeed, modern society depends on electricity and the work of electrical engineers.

Electrical engineering involves harnessing electrical power including electronics, electricity and electromagneticism.  Today, Electrical Engineers do more than power up homes and buildings, they are involved with control systems, signal processing and telecommunications.

Because of its connection with integrated circuits, many degree programs found on this site combine Computer Engineering with Electrical or Electronics Engineering.

Electrical Engineering Job Outlook and Salary

The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that in 2008 the median salary for Electronics Engineers was over $88,000.  This, like most engineering jobs, is WELL above the national average.

As electronic devices continue to expand with new ones hitting the market all the time, and with the development of robotics also expanding, Electrical Engineers should have steady employment and an overall positive outlook for the foreseeable future.
